Understanding a change notice

The date of your agreement is part of the answer.

01

Find the applicable document

A notification may concern regular service, an extra or another agreement. Identify the affected component and the date the original terms were accepted before comparing it with a newer advertised product.

02

Understand the newer rule

Ofcom’s rules for new contracts from 17 January 2025 prohibit inflation-linked or percentage-based in-contract rises. Specified rises must instead be clear in pounds and pence, with timing. This is a clarity rule, not a universal freeze on bills.

03

Check rights and deadlines

Older arrangements can have different wording. Read any stated right to leave and the deadline for using it, and ask the provider to explain how a remaining device balance is treated. Do not assume another customer’s notice gives you the same option.

04

Retain the conversation

Save the notification and any written explanation. If the response does not resolve the issue, use the provider’s published complaints process. We can explain general terminology but cannot determine an individual contractual dispute.

Keep the next step official

General information cannot confirm personal account conditions. Read your provider’s current documents and use its official channels before making a change.

Your next step remains your decision.
